Building a fiber network takes a lot of time. It requires laying all new fiber optic cable in the ground and on rare occasions on utility poles. This is a a new subdivision and two of my neighbors who were AT&T phone customers have the fiber internet service because the techs installed their fiber internet ... No, the option wasn't available to pay the cost out of pocket. They simply said AT&T was not interested in supplying Fiber to the premises in my neighborhood at the time due to the cost of bringing it into the neighborhood (estimated at $18,000), the lack of green space in the front of our homes, and the property being managed by an HOA instead ... .
